Practical Implementation of Electric Vehicle Integration into a Microgrid using V2G and G2V

Abstract
Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) is an emerging technology that makes electric vehicles (EVs) an even more beneficial investment by using EVs as a mobile power grid. The integration of EVs with the microgrid requires several steps that include communication with the infrastructure (V2X) and bidirectional power electronic converters to exchange power with the grid. In this study, a complete structure of the EVs integration into the microgrid is demonstrated and implemented. Both V2G and G2V technologies using the integrated onboard bidirectional charger (IOBC) are performed to take and supply power to the grid. A mechanism of the available surplus power to the microgrid by several EVs is proposed. A detailed analysis of power management has been conducted by prioritizing renewable energy (EVs' power) in peak hours. The analysis is performed using a Typhoon-HIL microgrid testbed. Furthermore, the results are also verified by conducting experiments using a grid emulator.
