AbstractMembrane fabrication highly relies on solution processes. Environmental and health concerns are driving the investigation of alternative green solvents to substitute classical toxic ones. Recent contributions to this topic are reviewed, comparing advantages and drawbacks of manufacturing membranes using water, bio-sourced solvents, non-toxic synthetic organic solvents and ionic liquids as the most explored.
