Abstract:
In the course of the exploration of the La<inf>2</inf>O<inf>3</inf>-WO<inf>3</inf>-Nb<inf>2</inf>O<inf>5</inf> ternary phase diagram, a new compound with the formula La<inf>3</inf>NbWO<inf>10</inf> was discovered. Its structure was determined from a combination of powder X-ray and neutron diffraction data. It crystallizes in the tetragonal space group P4<inf>2</inf>/nmc (no. 137) with the lattice parameters: a=10.0807(1) Å; c=12.5540(1) Å. The structure is built up from infinite ribbons of octahedra (W/Nb)O<inf>5</inf> which are perpendicular to each other, lanthanum ions being distributed around these ribbons. The electrical properties of this compound were investigated on sintered pellets by means of complex impedance spectroscopy. © 2015 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.
